Hello Everyone, we are Neelesh and Arti Surana currently living in silicon city of India, Bangalore. Apart from being Mumma and Dadda of a lovely 1.5 years old son, we also work as software professionals in a software services company. Although I construct(develop) the software code and she destructs(test) the same. Arti is from Madhya Pradesh (heart of India) whereas I am from Rajasthan (most colorful state of India). We are married for more than 5 years now and are totally opposites of each other even though we share the same zodiac sign. Only thing we agree on is traveling together to various places. We are a normal next door couple who dream big and aspire to achieve a lot in life. Right now we are busy looking at things from the eyes of our 1.5 year old son Aarav for whom everything is a miracle. For him every journey is fun whether it is 5KM long or 500KM long. By seeing the happiness on his face for discovering new things every time we travel, we are learning to understand the true meaning of the wise saying 'It's the journey that matters, not the destination ".

We are the best candidates because...

We are the best candidates because we both have insatiable appetite for adventure, traveling to new places and driving around. We love to do different things and are always looking forward to take challenges that push us to limits. And once we put our minds/body/soul to something we make sure that we do our best to achieve that. We also totally agree to below mentioned wise words of 'Mark Twain' and follow them whenever we can. "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." -- Mark Twain. We have done various journeys for various reasons but we want to do this for our son. We would have loved to take him along with us and see all the places through his eyes but since that is not possible will try to capture everything in a way that he can relate to all the places and have a feel of them. If we get selected, we are looking forward to 10 days of second honeymoon after monotonous routine of daily life. Also, who wants to miss a chance to leave away work and travel for 12 days in a wonderful car like Mitsubishi Cedia Sports car.

Our Travel Plan

Here is our travel plan after lots of long discussions and all considerations. This is the route that we intend to take for 'The Great Driving Challenge' contest. The ideas behind deciding this route was to make us (we both and our Mitsubishi Cedia Sports car) cover as varied landscapes as possible. So we are covering the Malwa Plateau region of MP, Places and Deserts of Rajasthan, Coastal line of Gujarat. As a bonus, we travel through Maharashtra (richest state in India), Madhya Pradesh (heart of India), Rajasthan (most colorful state of India) and Gujarat (most vibrant state of India). Travel from Mumbai to Nasik, the "Wine Capital of India". Nasik is also the origin of river Godavari and has 'Trimbakeshwar temple' that contains one of the twelve Jyotirlingas (naturally occuring Lingas) in India. From Nasik travel to Indore, one of the fastest growing tier-III cities of India also known as Mini Mumbai. Indore's salubrious climate, picturesque landscape of the Malwa plateau and the flowing rivulets is the reason we decided to cover this city in our route. From Indore travel to Ratlam known for its Daal Baati/Daal - Bafla, with laddu and clarified butter one of the favorites of me and my wife. This place also interests my wife as it is good market for gold and silver with many shops selling a range of quality jewelry. From Ratlam travel to Udaipur i.e. City of Lakes. Udaipur is also known for its Rajput-era palaces. Particularly famous is the Lake Palace, which covers an entire island in the Pichola Lake. We would love to stay in one of the places here if TGDC team is kind enough to sponsor the same :) From Udaipur travel to Jodhpur that is also known as Sun City and Blue City. We would love to see and capture beauty and glory of Umaid Bhawan Palace and Mehrangarh Fort. A number of Indian delicacies like the delectable Makhaniya Lassi, Mawa Kachori, Pyaaj Kachori, Hot & Spicy Mirchibada have originated in Jodhpur. From Jodhpur travel to Jaisalmer that is also known as "The Golden City" famous for its Havelis and several ornate Jain temples. The surrounding desolate landscape around Jaisalmer evidences a stark, austere beauty. The musicians and dancers are also a major cultural export of Jaisalmer to the rest of the world. From Jaisalmer travel to Porbandar which is also the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi and Sudama (Friend of Lord Krishna). It also has an excellent beach and a brilliant azure sea about which not many people know. This is the reason we want to travel to this place and capture its beauty. From Porbandar travel to Somnath, the city of Somnath Temple that has most sacred of the twelve Jyotirlings of the God Shiva. Somnath means "The Protector of Moon God" and the Somnath Temple is known as 'the Shrine Eternal'as although the temple has been destroyed six times it has been rebuilt every single time. We look forward to visit this beautiful temple and capture all its beauty and glory. Travel from Somnath to Bhavnagar (cultural capital of Saurashtra). We also plan to visit the famous Jain temples at Palitana on the Shatrunjaya Hills, Sihor. We would also like to cover the Blackbuck National Park, Velavadar - the home of the famous Indian Blackbuck. From Bhavnagar we plan to travel to Mumbai via Vadodara (The City of Culture) and Surat (also known as the diamond capital of the world and the Textile capital of India). In Vadodara, we plan to visit great museums on the palace grounds such as the Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum and art gallery that are unique and carry artifacts from around the nation and the world. Apart from various other places in Surat, we plan to visit Dumas and Suvali, two well known health resorts on a creek emptying into the Arabian Sea. As you would have noticed, we are planning to cover various places that will cater to likings of people with varied interest who will follow our photos, videos and blogs. We plan to visit palaces, old monuments, deserts, lakes, temples, national parks, health resorts, museums and art centers during our visits to the places mentioned below. We also plan to try local delicacies and tell about them for the people who are interested in various cuisines. We noticed a pleasant coincidence after completing our route map on Google Maps. If you notice our route map kind of looks like a miniature version of India map. If not complete India, we are at least aiming to cover parts of India that gives our friends/followers a feel of different flavors of this wonderful country called India.

Our Travelogue

I've been a traveler all my life, I have driven thousands of kilometers in India and thousands of miles in US during all the road trips that I/We have done. There are lots of trips that we had done together after marriage and individually before but I have mentioned few of them below. Please check some of our travelogues at http://neelesharti.blogspot.com/. 1. Alwar->Jaipur->Ajmer->Bhilwara: This is the trip that I did to meet my wife for first time. We met at relatives place for what can be termed as typical Indian style arranged marriage meeting. We talked to each other and then went back to our respective places. I guess we both liked something in each other and hence decided to meet again at my place after a week. This time my wife and her family traveled all the way from Mandsaur (M.P) to Alwar (Rajasthan). After this second meeting, we liked each other enough to say yes and rest as they is history. 2. Bangalore->Ooty->Wellington->Coonor: This was a trip done to welcome New Year with our friend who at that time was doing a course at 'The Defense Services Staff College', Wellington. We drove from Bangalore to Wellington and stayed at The Defense Services Staff College. We then traveled to Ooty and Coonor from there for the sightseeing. 3. Bangalore->Jaipur->Sikar->Salasar->Sujangarh->Morkhana->Nagaur->Jodhpur->Balotra: This was the trip we did to get our son’s head tonsured for first time at our family deity’s temple in Morkhana (near Bikaner). From there we traveled to one of the famous Jain pilgrimage ‘Nakodaji’ near Jodhpur. 4. Bangalore->Mysore->Kushal Nagar->Madikeri: This was a weekend trip done to see places around Madikeri like Kushal Nagar, Dubare Elephant Camp, Nisargdhama, Talacauvery etc. We stayed at a home stay which was right in the middle of a coffee state. 5. Alwar->Jaipur->Ajmer->Bhilwara->Chittorgarh->Mandsaur: This was trip we did to visit my wife’s home town. This was the 1st time I was visiting her place and decided to make it a driving trip. We did stop in between to see places like Ajmer and Chittorgarh. 6. Bangalore-Mysore->Nagarhole National Park for white water rafting: This was a trip we did to satisfy our needs for some adventure. Although Arti couldn’t do the rafting as she was carrying Aarav at that time. I guess we’re trying to get Aarav used to traveling/adventure. 7. Bangalore->Goa: We did this trip as we wanted to just relax on the Goa beaches. One of the best trips where we just lazed and chilled around the beaches of Goa. We also tried things like banana boat ride, hiking and parasailing. 6. Alwar->Delhi->Chandigarh->Kasauli->Chail->Kufri->Shimla: This was our honeymoon trip to various places in Himachal Pradesh. The idea was to visit small but beautiful places like Kufri and stay away from crowded places like Shimla. 7. Bangalore->Hyderabad: This was a trip we did to attend the wedding of a friend. Since my wife was traveling to Hyderabad first time, we visited all the places of tourist interests there. 8. Bangalore->Sri Rangapatna->Mysore (more than 5 times for sure): These are the trips we have done to take our relatives/friends from out station for Mysore/Srirangapatna sightseeing. 9. Bangalore->Salem->Coimbatore->Udumalpet: This was one of the impromptu trips we did with our friends to visit their home towns in Coimbatore and Udumalpet. 10. Bangalore->Hyderabad->Nagpur->Bhandara: This was a trip we did to attend another friend’s wedding in Bhandara. The other reason was to show my engineering college in Nagpur to wife. Some of the journeys that I had done alone in India and US are. 1. Various trekking trips to places in Utttranchal like Gangotri, Yamnotri, Kedarnath, Badrinath, Dodital lake, Joshimath etc.: 2. Nagpur->Kolkata->Guwahati->Shillong->Cherapunji 3. Nagpur->Pune->Goa 4. Whole state of Rajasthan 5. Places in UP like Mathura, Agra, Kanpur, Lucknow, Rishikesh, Haridwar 6. Places in Gujarat like Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat 7. Places in Maharashtra like Aurangabad, Mumbai, Mahabaleshwar 8. Places in TN like Chennai, Mahabalipuram Unites States of America I have driven for thousands of miles in US to do road trips like Des Moines->Peoria->Chicago, Des Moines->Detroit->Niagra Falls, Des Moines->Colorado Springs->Denver, Des Moines->Minneapolis, La Crosse->Madison->Peoria etc.
