“No horns-No stopping-No music” - Mysore-Wayanad-Mysore
Posted By thecouple
We changed our plans of going to Madikkeri via Wayanad on Day 6. Instead, we went to Wayanad and returned to Mysore by evening. The decision turned out to be good. We chose to go via Nagarhole National Park and our destination was Manantawady in Wayanad. What we did not know was that over 40 kms of the drive was through the National Park. At the entrance, security guards clearly instructed ‘No horns, No stopping, No music” during the drive. To say that the drive was exciting is an understatement. Nagarhole National Park (now Rajiv Gandhi National Park) was set up in 1955 and considered as one of the best managed sanctuaries in the country.
Wayanad is one of the hill districts in Kerala, bordering Karnataka and Tamilnadu, and is part of the Nilgiris biosphere. Wayanad is less explored by tourists compared to Munnar and Thekkady in southern Kerala, but it has plenty to offer for nature lovers. Wayanad also has gained its place in history by witnessing some of the fierce battles fought by the British, Tipu Sultan and Pazhassi Raja.
We touched 2-3 key towns in Wayanad before returning to Mysore through a different route. Manantawady to Kalpetta (in search of ancient Jain temples) to Sultan Bathery and back to Mysore via Muttanga Wildlife Sanctuary and Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary.
It requires at least a week to enjoy Wayanad in all its essence. We plan to come back to Wayanad too.

About us
We, Unny & Bindhu, are a couple currently based in Mumbai. The best introduction can be: He (Unny) - Armchair traveler. Reluctant reader. Would-be writer. Amateur photographer, Day dreamer… and likewise, a pretender of too many things.
She (Bindhu) - Add a few more pretensions - a good cook, a good host, etc. Easily mistaken for a serious, intellectual reader, but far from it. Engineer by qualification; freelance writer by choice. Also volunteers as a teacher for Akanksha, an NGO.
