Karad: A school bus and some research
Posted By thecouple
Once we reached Karad, we left the highway looking for Sagareshwar, about 28 km from Karad. As we passed through well irrigated farms and canals, we remembered our earlier visit to Karad and a discussion on agricultural prosperity. We then saw this school bus of a private English medium school with a bunch of kids in a village junction (with barely 1 shop) and we realised that the prosperity is perhaps trickling down.
Back at the hotel, we quickly looked for some information on Karad on internet. Here it is: Karad is located at the confluence of Krishna and Koyna rivers and is known as the sugar-bowl of Maharashtra. Karad has literacy rate way higher than the national average (76% vs 60%, census 2001), has many educational/professional educational institutions and also recognised as a prominent education centre in Southern Maharashtra. So it is not a mere trickling down by chance. Education is considered very important and every family is striving to get their children well educated.
