Lesser known things – Jain temples in Kerala
Posted By thecouple
It is a hardly known fact that Kerala temple architecture owes much to Jainism. Somewhere between 3rd and 8th century BC, Jainism had established strongly in Kerala. There were many Jain temples in Kerala and during its decline phase it is said that most of them got converted into Hindu temples. There is still a small community of Jains in Kerala, mostly in Wayanad and Calicut. We had heard about the Jain temples in Wayanad and went looking for it. All we could find was this dilapidated one.
We also caught up with a Jain family living in a small cluster of houses and a temple.
