The ‘Rurban’ Kerala
Posted By thecouple
‘Urban’ and ‘Rural’ are two often used parlances in Marketing. But while defining Kerala, marketers had to search for a new term. ‘Rurban’ is a term now commonly used in marketing literature to describe the markets in Kerala.
High density of population and a service economy ‘powered’ by NRI remittances and tourism has resulted in villages turning to small towns across Kerala. It is not surprising to see tiny towns on every 10-15 km of your drive in Kerala. The ‘Gulf’ remittances are supplemented by software and nursing jobs in the US and Europe.
Kerala economy’s overt reliance on ‘remittance’ money is often debated. Perhaps, time will tell whether everything is on the right track.

would love for you to have taken a few more shots of the crowded ‘highways’ of kerala though.
