We need your verdict on this one!

A couple signed up for the contest on July 6th, and our system logged a total of 3709 requests to vote for his application. Interesting thing is that they just picked up just 3 votes, between the 9th and 10th of July. The balance came in on the last 4 days 14-17th. On the 14th there were 63 vote requests, on 15th they shot up to 614, on the last two days we logged over 2800. Now prepare for this - All the emails on the last 3 days come from ONE domain space.net.in

A quick search on Google brings up a listing of TRAI authorized ISP providers and lists Space Online Pvt. Ltd. A confirmation from Just Dial returns same result.

So our applicant is not just running an ISP business on space.net.in,. but it looks like has also access to thousands of friends on his own ISP, who all decide to come in and vote for their favorite couple all in the last few days, in one sweeping home run - when the organizers are least likely to keep a watch.

But this starry couple not content with just the votes, decide to ‘step it up; on the testimonials as well. They are sure reading my ‘Tips’ on how to qualify. However in their rush for time, they discover they do not have time to create their own testimonials;so they go out and grab a few from their neighboring applicants, and in the process of cut&paste, forget to change the names.

If you are unable to see the above, let me help you: “Good Luck Amit & Jace” reads a testimonial to a couple with a completely different set of names. I decide to grab the testimonial and throw it in to Google to find if there is a match and BINGO - the same testimonial appears for Amit Singh and Jasleen Chopra

This has certainly been the most challenging moment for Team GDC. As a policy we have decided to continue to feature people, irrespective of their suspect voting patterns and testimonials, as we have done in the past.

The evidence is before the Jury who will take their final decision; but we need your verdict on this one!

How uncool !

hey its really a great job by tgdc to find out and put them in fo\ront of us for verdict now that u have come to know about this u will judge the best

Keeping up the spirit of fairness in every game is very important. I just asked for votes and did not pressurize people. The votes of all those which came for me are important, as those people read the application and TRUELY believe in me. I am happy for participation and Cedia. Being in the IT field myself, creating an automated bot for votes was never a big deal..but that wud have just killed the fun of it all…THIS IS FOR FUN after all. The pleasure is always in the journey and not in destination is my belief…

Hats off for Team GDC for doing such a good job of investigation!
Although it was sad to read how a few people can play spoilsport and wipe out the fun element of participating in such a unique competition, it was equally comforting to know that the Organizers on thier part are so judiciously working to ensure that justice prevails.
Keep up the good work!

they should be disqualified in no uncertain terms….in the true spirit of fairplay!

Posted by vinod  on  07/19  at  10:49 AM

hey its really great that you found out them and put them in front of us i was just able to smell something fishy when i saw them shooting up like this while checking our votes so now i’m sure that the jury will do the needful

Posted by deepak  on  07/19  at  11:22 AM

This is the reason why votes should not have any priority. It can always be rigged.

Kudos TGDC, we trust you…and really appreciate the great job. It is not simple to monitor and bring out issues like this amidst so many applicants.

In any aspect of life you will find this confilct between ethical and non-ethical practices. For many applicants here who come from techie background including my husband, it would not have taken long to create a couple of lists of emails id’s from various IP addresses. Moreover many of us are in a position where we could have instructed our entire office or institution to vote and ensured that they did. But then there are a lot of us who believe in the spirit of participation, the right way and have requested for votes through known network, and testimonials from people who really know us, in our case if you notice the testimonials, it has come from people who have felt our passion for driving holidays, seen our photos, read or listened to our travels and have known us for a while as a family.

For many of us we have played it straight enough to report to support any incidence of error.

We are confident that the jury will be fair in it’s verdict and not be driven by policy decisions…considering the the very objective of this competition…So let us not worry…

I dont think you guys need to ask any of us for a verdict on this one or any others like this!!

I would like to believe that noone would go so low to get the maximum no of votes possible but i am now beginning to understand that a lot of participants have done that!!

Instead of working on making their profiles better, they thought the easier option was to get as many votes as possible!!

I just hope that the nos of such participants are as low as possible!!

Hi Jury and all my co-contestants!!

First of all I would thank the Team GDC to give me an opportunity where I could get a good exposure (or BAD) and thank all the co-contestants who noticed and commented on my profile.

I would like to Introduce myself as a Chairman & Managing Director of SPACE ONLINE LTD. a class “B” Internet Services Provider having operations across the state. We have a broadband customer base of more than 20000 users and operating at 14 locations in the state. I belong to Rajkot and my family is there itself so, as it was my personal profile I’ve written the postal address of Rajkot.

I was actually out of town since quite a few days and reached ahmedabad on 13th late night. Upon seen my profile on 14th and being received only 2 votes from the mails I had sent while submitting my application, I decided to campaign again and an idea stuck to my mind that let me and a few collegues of mine submit the e-mail IDs that we have in our database of all our customers on the voting page and let them just click on the confirmation link when they get a mail. So, we started submission of e-mail IDs of our own space.net.in mail server and the alternate e-mail IDs that we do have of our customers. And the mails started getting shot to the respective customers. Let me tell you, we have a strength of more than 20000 customers and more than 1000 logs on to our network every hr. Then we started campaigning via messages to the online users to click on the confirmation link in their so called received mail from TGDC team and vote for me. And thus the votes started coming in within no time. Now voting is after all about the campaigning and using your strength. No matter the voter is your friend, relative, associate, customer or an enemy. Its all about how many people know you and wish the best for you. Everybody must have campaigned and most of them must have fired more than 1 vote having 3-4 diff. IDs. They might not have 1500-2000 nos in their mobile phonebook, how can they know that many people whom they campaigned and who voted for them. Most of them must have done the submission of details on voting page for their voters. Each and Everybody no doubt must have taken an easy step to gather more and more votes. Why am I blamed. One can not pass a judgement he doesnt know anything.

Am I wrong to gather votes from my customers ? Am I wrong to submit the details on voting page and then letting the voter just confirm the vote by opening an e-mail.

Believe me I’m not at all hungry for votes, contest and money. I dont have that much time to think about. This Unfortunately I was not in town and did not even think about the contest once applied, otherwise I could have undoubtedly gathered more than 10000 votes.

And even if the jury sets a decision on the bases of gathering votes from diff. e-mail IDs and not just from single server, then I dont mind the decision. I’m not here to challenge the comments that people have passed without knowing me in all sense. I’m on the road for more than 20 days a month and I will be. No matter I’m in the contest or not. I enjoy every tour whether business or holiday and I will. And even if anybody not satisfied by this clarification and want to confirm my personality, my driving ability, my driving profile can contact me.
Thanking you all for your valuable time spared on my profile.

This was amazing.
Till now i was just a contestant who wanted to use the set platform to explore the unexplored…

But your such revelations, just made me the fan of your technical team.
Three cheers for you…

Hi TGDC,

Good to see that you are taking care of everything while considering the top 100.

We were really surprised to see many profiles getting more than 500/1000 votes in a day. We can understand people getting more than 100/200 votes in day since we got the same when we finally asked colleagues in our respective companies to vote for us. But more than this was really unbelievable.

Hope things like this will not mar the beauty of this wonderful contest and 100 most deserving couples will get selected.

Looking forward to see the top 100 couple tomorrow,
Neelesh & Arti

While I was busy last 2 days with some clients, I missed the action on this blog.

This was a very very interesting fact TGDC team has brought up. Anything and everything done by people to be on top voted list!

We fully trust TGDC team and the jury to select the deserving candidates.

Fingers crossed. All my gears setup and ready for the drive (hoping I get selected, or, maybe my own drive to the next city in my regular plan)

Let us see what time has for us.
Good luck everyone who has been honest and deserving.

TGDC:
Even before reading the explanation I was going to ask you to reserve your verdict till you interacted with this List topper, now I surely suggest that.

Jogesh:
Some of my friends had been watching your spectacular rise with keen interest, and one of them guessed you might have walked with your laptop to the nearest Pan Shop, and convinced people to vote for you!

Thats where we thought one half of votes came from. The other half, I thought you would have got because of your social circle - guessing by the close and loyal friends and community circles some of my freinds at Rajkot have.

But you still need to shed some light on the Testimony bit!

In all fairness, even a friend of mine found a way to cut short the time taken by two stage voting process: By entering the name and emails of other friends, and then simple asking them to open their mail!

Keep biting your nails folks, more to come I am sure.

They too should be given some kind of reward for atleast showing their extreme enthusiasm… but of course they have lost their elegibility for the GREAT CHALLENGE ... hey even some awards recognise the worst performance or talent…. lets all just take it in good humour….

I am sure none of the contestants here would enjoy any sadistic pleasure by crucifying anyone.

“If you cant be the best ... be the worst.. ;P you will surely get noticed….” would like to tweak a bit of what my fellow contestant/competitor Anirudha Basu wrote above—- “if you cant have 12 days of fame… do with 15 minutes of it… “

I am sure the jury is having a good laugh coz of such “naive” people!!!!

Newys…
Cant wait to hear the roar of the cedia engine…. DDDDDddrrrrrrrrrrrrrRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!

We are sure the jury knows - exactly what to do in such cases smile
cheers and goodluck all.

I guess this profile will never stop amusing all of us for it has so many fakes and fakes .. and well… more fakes…..

check this snap out on the profile http://www.flickr.com/photos/40520343@N04/3729341664/sizes/o/

to my utter disbelief these guys didnt even take the pains to upload their own snaps… if you havent noticed yet…. there is a copy right mark at the bottom right corner…. so basically these guys have now broken the law…. its piracy… criminal offense….. phew!!!!

So MY VERDICT——
Step 1) Lets all have a GOOD Laugh!!!
Step 2) Tell these people that we are not fools
Step 3) Award them 4 their “GREAT” achievements
Step 4) Show them the door

I am not into social service but someone who is…..PLEASE tell them that Copywrite infringement can land you in jail and NOT on the super highway with cedia under ones palm!!!!

Great Job TGDC team!! we totally appreciate your efforts to track how people are gathering votes…We joined the contest on the 15th July and have done whatever could be done to gather votes in 2 days….and yeah 147 votes and 15 testimonials in 2 days is good enough i guess to realize how much people believe in us….But yeah our honest approach makes us more confident that we’ll make it!!!! Thanks guys for keeping our hopes up!! smile

When the TGDC team is pointing these things out, I think, we all, the really serious about challenge & deserving candidates can hope for a perfect choice of Top 100 from the organisers.

After looking all this, I really wish say “Best Luck” for the TGDC team.  smile) This could be their hard time.

Thanks smile

A lot has been said on the subject and including stuff from the other related post “Interesting Fake IDs”. Obviously some of the approaches used as indicated would be seriously suspect under the Cyber Law in force in the country. But considering the spirit under which this event is being held, here are a few suggestions:

1) Allow the applicants 2 days to voluntarily withdraw. Post this bring in IT forensic experts

2) Allow applicants to voluntarily clean-up their votes before the sign-off on their final votes (this was suggested in an earlier comment)

3) On a lighter note: Announce to everyone the creative methods some participants have used and open up the voting for a couple of more days. Event the captians of the industry have long argued for a level playing field!!!

Posted by Narendra Puppala  on  07/20  at  11:29 AM

Wondering if TGDC will come up with an award in the lines of “The most creative FAKE” or s’thing like that. Many might ask “Why” indignantly. I ask “Why not?” smile

These ‘fakes’ needn’t be in the finalists list, but to creatively award them a fake award could be interesting.. hmm..
