Located midway Dalhousie and Chamba, Khajjiar is at an altitude of 6561 feet. The distance from Delhi is around 585 kilometres. Can’t miss telling you the route on google maps in true Rishi’s style (see I am learning new things )

Khajjiar, the only place in India to have hailed a reputation for being a mini Switzerland of India for a long time. Lush greenery surrounding the pond in centre, pony rides, sheep & shepherd, a Dak-Bangla, a few restaurants selling all kinds of food (especially the sweet corn and veg. pakoras), hundreds of tourists every day, balloons, parachute rides and lots more. It is one place where your kids will surely have a blast to the fullest while you soak in serene scenery.

They call it mini Switzerland, right, look at the deodar trees surrounding the huge open area. Weather changes by minutes here, and when we were there, it poured and stopped frequently with intermittent sunshine falling through the gaps in smoke silver clouds. Khajjiar is one of the beautiful gems that Chamba district can boast of. Surrounding it is the Kalatop wild life sanctuary that Rishi wrote about in last travelogue. The best way to book the FRH in Khajjiar is through HDTDC website (http://www.hptdc.gov.in/), though, there are a number of good hotels including the famous Hotel Devdar. During winters the trees are clad with snow making it as beautiful as Switzerland, thus winter is the best time to go there.

Your kids would not afford to miss the pony ride and also be amused to see some parachutes gliding around, wind blows freely in Khajjiar and is an ideal place for such gliding experiences. Bhutta(corn) and bhelpuri will stay high on your food menu agenda, and u should have a walk around the lake for sure.

Khajjiar was named after Khajji Nag whose 12th century temple is situated there, inside which there are life size wooden statues of 5 Pandavas from Mahabharata. According the old adage pandavas stayed in Khajjiar during their exile time. It is far from the hustle-bustle of Dalhousie and offers tranquillity and peace all through day & night.

On a clear day you may see Mount Kailash. There is not much to see except soaking in natural beauty. You would not miss the Khajji Nag temple located on the periphery of the ground.
We were told that there are several near by villages that you can track to meet local villagers to know more about traditional colours of this place. We missed this piece due to time constraint but I plan to visit Khajjiar again sometime soon after our Raid-de-Himalaya Rally in October this year.
