We are Shilpi and Swapnil, true blue Mumbaikars! We got married just 6 months back after an eventful courtship of over 4 years. Swapnil is a computer science engineer from IIT Bombay and works for a start up in Mumbai while Shilpi is an MBA and is working as an associate consultant for a software company. Whereas Swapnil is an avid biker, car-enthusiast and a self-confessed techie, Shilpi loves to pursue her passion for creative writing and traveling! We have been in Powai, Mumbai for around 8 years now and are complete loyalists to our dear city. So much so that since our love blossomed in Mumbai we decided to dedicate our marriage to the city and we did convince our families to travel here for the wedding! (though both families are based in Pune). We're both connoisseurs of food made well and so a big motivation for us is also the lovely food that various signature restaurants and roadside joints offer on the way during such drives! Perhaps, the only three reasons why we are married is because of our shared passion for food, movies and travel! We dont deny any opportunity to take up these three things! :)

We are the best candidates because...

We are the best candidates beacuse... We absolutely, heads over heels, love to travel! The only thing that keeps us kicking is the excitement of an upcoming trip and planning for it! This challenge comes to us like a gift for us to realize our long-cherished dream of a long long driving trip! The driving motivation to win this challenge is only pure, unadulterated happiness that we will be blessed with! Amen :)

Our Travel Plan

For the great driving challenge we have charted out a route to suit the requirements of the challenge. The carefully planned 3000 km route to spread over 10 days that we propose to take is Mumbai – Valsad – Ahmedabad – Udaipur - Kota – Ajmer – Jaipur – New Delhi – Agra – Gwalior – Ujjain – Dhule – Nasik - Mumbai Detailing our plan a bit, we envision beginning at Mumbai, the Maximum city onto NH8 towards Valsad. After a short dip at the local Tithal beach and passing past the numerous banayan trees of Valsad we would reach the totally Gujarati city of Ahemdabad. Exploration of the city of Ahmed Shah and a good fill of authentic gujju thali and we will be all kicking to shoot the famous and attractive chestnut brown Asiatic at the Rann of Kutch, one of the largest wildlife sanctuary (With our point and shoot Digi cam of course!). The next destination will be Udaipur, the city of lakes and Venice of East which was very recently voted the world's best city for travellers in 2009 in an online poll. The palaces’ architecture and the lakes will charm us enough for us to hold on longer but the journey will only get exciting as we will drive towards Kota, the education city and to us the place to gorge on the world’s best Pyaz Kachhoris! We will then drive towards Ajmer, paying our respect to the Almighty at the Dargah to help us win the Challenge! The next in line will be the pink city which is a misnomer because of the splash of a riot of bandhani colors that meets the eye at Jaipur! Shopping for some Leheriyas and Kundan jewellery at the local meena bazzar and we will be echoing, Delhi ab dur nahi! We’re sure, that the aroma of alu tikkis and chole bhature will fill our senses even before we cross the tolls of the grand New Delhi A quick bite there and our recent marriage will get to witness the wonder of Taj, made immemorial by lovers like us across the world pining to glance at it lost in love. Now onto NH3 we would halt next at the strategically located Gwalior in the northern grid to appreciate the Mughal Architecture and the rustic old town. Driving further down we will next step into the holy city of Ujjain onto Dhule and then to the wine capital of India, Nasik to drive back to the city of our dreams, Mumbai!

Our Travelogue

Mumbai is a lovely city to drive around in (at nights of course!). Swapnil proposed to me some five years back while we were riding on the bike to the Juhu beach! And since then the most meaningful conversations that we have had were carried out over our bike rides (it is crazy but true! :)) To begin with, the romance of a 40 km drive from Powai to Nariman point itself completely rubs in the passion of travel in us. Our parents being based in Pune gave us the opportunity to drive on the awesome Mumbai-Pune Expressway quite regularly. The weekends at Mumbai were well utilized to travel first along the lovely Konkan coastline and compelled us to bike to places like Harihareshwar, Bhandardara, Malshej Ghat etc. Also our deep passion to explore new places and our inability to stay at home over any holiday possible has made us take very regular holiday trips to places like Matheran, Ganpathipule, Kashid Beach, Lonavala, Mahabaleshwar, Daman, Kelve Beach, Goa (twice in two years! Can u really blame us!) After having used all our weekends very well and completing travel to all possible places around Mumbai and Pune, we are currently exploring places far off. For our honeymoon, we traveled to explore the shaded waters and silver sands of a tropical Mauritius during January this year. And to continue our travel plans, we have an upcoming trip to Coorg, Munnar and Kodaikanal this monsoon. Beaches have excited us the most and we both become water babies the moment we see blue! However, we have enjoyed all seasons. Be the summers spent at Matheran where we could cool our heels or be it the monsoon at scenic Lonavala and Malshej we just can’t stay put! We are hopeful that this Driving Challenge will help us realize our passion to an even greater extent and help us do the North western India tour that we have been wanting to do since a long time now!
