Just one more day to announcing the TOP 9 in the Great Driving Challenge, and you are wondering what is happening behind the scenes. All of you are aware that Background Check is on. Team GDC is validating identity, documents etc and reaching out through phone (or) email (or) on-ground. The process followed is simple. Each Jury Member sleeps over the ‘list of 100’, reviews applicants individually and comes up with his/her preferred (rank ordered) list of 9 candidates. This is inspired by the methodology followed in Oscars, where each Jury is instructed to “follow your heart”. The scores used earlier for shortlisting now take a back-ground seat, so everyone (in TOP 100) really has an equal chance. No one is penalized for making random eccentric choices. ‘Cumulative Votes’ decide the TOP 9 winners. On Thursday the decks are cleared to declare the TOP 9. The site morphs to accommodate these participating couples - each winning couple gets individual access to their zone. Fans are welcomed on-board. They sign-up to follow a team of their choice. From this point on, it is really the 9 contesting couples with their fan-followers who take over. They keep us updated on how they are preparing for the challenge and share their magic moments with us. This phase continues all the way till the participants come down to Mumbai for an on-ground event (more on that soon). The fans watch every move, give pep talks (comments), influence the Jury. To appreciate the efforts of all your fans/friends/cousins/parents/teachers/neighbours etc who were cajoled/coerced/intimated/stalked into voting for you, Team GDC will announce mega prizes for fans, just being there and making this event a success. The site will track “fan activity” for each of the 9 teams announced, till the time TOP 3 is announced. Does this all sound exciting or what? @TGDC Team A Great Job done!! You people have not only touched but has definately changed thousands of people’s life. We couldn’t just wait to be there in Top 9 and experiences the best in store for us . “They will be no losers at the end as we all have again something or other at our end.” Thanks TGDC for making the difference!!

Damn!! I can’t concentrate on work…I promised myself that I would finish all pending mails and then open the site but , no way I could keep my mouse off clicking the GDC link in my favorites. Guys, the suspense in killing….the ticker at home page appears like ticker from NASA command center at Houston, getting ready for the launch. I never felt this excited…I am nervous…feel weak in my knees…somehow brain has given up words…hands shake with excitement! I am not sure if workout will help calm my nerves and would help me catch some sleep tonight. I feel TGDC is creating history of some sort, which others would follow. With new ideas coming, I see this event changing in to a repetitive driving event from HM-Mitsubishi stable. As I browsed through top 100 profiles, with each next click the applicant appeared stronger than the last. So much talent, so much passion, so much enthusiasm and so much optimism. As I write this post, my mind is going everywhere, from Murphy’s law to Finagle’s law… Sandip, how about a audio or video bridge where we can log in, while you announce nine for next phase? Did I just heard someone saying…Houston, we have a problem!!! I think I have been reading “Just enough Anxiety by Bob Rosen” too seriously. I need some sleep I guess…

“Money was never a big motivation for me, except as a way to keep score. The real excitement is playing the game.” These words of Donald Trump now have a meaning that I understand. This challenge organized by TGDC is not just a life changing event for us participants but also a game changing event for the Marketing Industry. It shows that putting hoardings with hot models is not the only way of getting attention and getting people excited. It has proved that money alone cannot get brands noticed, but creativity alone can. Being a publisher I am pretty sure that this challenge will become a case study in the 14th South Asian Edition of Marketing Mangement by Philip Kotler. Cheers to all of you. You guys Rock. Three cheers once again to TGDC team for playing fair at best in the squeezed time slot available to them. “Each Jury Member sleeps over the ‘list of 100’” must be a back aching task while sipping coffee and surviving on pakodas. We sincerely appreciate all the hard work that has been put into this to make sure this challenge is as dignified as it was perceived. Butterflies, rats, frogs, and what not in our stomach!

This is too nerve-wracking.. Before the Top 100 were announced, GDC was yet another distraction during office hours. The chances of being one of the profiles to be selected as the lucky 100 out of a whopping 8000 seemed remote enough. To be one of the lucky 9, well.. time will say, of which there is precious little left. All the best to our fellow contestants, I still am not done going through the remaining 99 profiles & rest assured intend to do so to find our our favourite couple to root for in case its Adios time.. & say its Adios time tomorrow, are u guys recruiting at GDC??? :-D

Hi Friends!!! Its really very gr8 to hear from everybody. It seems as if TGDC has brought all of us together in one family. This is what TGDC has really shown after filtering out the defaulters to bring out the best 100. Now, atleast we can all share among ourselves our travel plan and whoever needs any good travel—be it in india or abroad, can definitely contact each other.

Awesome, Quite a fun way of maintaining the excitement and interest of everybody. I came to know about this event quite late, (since I was traveling) and no sooner I got back, I got excited calls from my family asking me if I had registered, drawing a blank I learnt about this contest and instantly signed up, I wasnt too sure about it because when I had bought my car I had very eagerly signed up as a member of the Lancer club, but I think Mitsubishi had forgotten about this club and there were zinch activity or correspondence, but recently the magazines and news was hinting at Mitsubishi revamping its look and customer feel so I was very Excited, after all I had my dream car… Coming back to TGDC I knew I was a little late when I saw peoples profiles and vote status, but thanks to a lot of support I managed to make it in the top 100. Now the explanation of your process is truly novel, (I didn’t know Oscars had this format of selection), but it seems very, very fair. My heart had sunk a little when I read all the blogs about the celebrity couple and blah.. blah.. but now my spirits are high again. Kudos to you guys. And I hope I am 1 of the top 9… Then my work begins and I am sure I would be in 1 of the cars. All the very best to you and please do a wonderful job. All the best to every participant. Love you all…
